Civic Society Award for Laundry

Close, Wellingborough

Morton Wykes Kramer are proud to have been awarded the annual civic award from the Wellingborough Civic society.  The civic society (est. 1972) presents an annual award to the architectural project that best serves it’s aims of ‘preserving, developing and improving features of public amenity or historical interest’.

Laundry Close was originally the site of the Sunlight Laundry.  Out of use since 2008, the buildings had become something of an eyesore.  Morton Wykes Kramer have designed a development of homes that bring this area back into community use.

This £2million pound project of Affordable Homes for East Midlands Housing Group also meets the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.  The site was particularly tight and within the Broad Green Conservation area.  Therefore it was a critical site that needed redevelopment for Wellingborough.
